Flaming June it may not be if our weather continues it’s current trend.
However, Carlisle has been chosen as one of the 66 host cities in the UK for the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Route and will possibly be the only city the Olympic torch visits twice.

An evening celebration of the Olympic flame at Bitts Park will be held on Wednesday, 20 June 2012 between 5.00pm and 7.30pm.
The first visit of the Olympic Torch will be on day 33, Wednesday 20th June when it is scheduled to reach the southern aspect of Warwick Road at 18.07pm.
Be prepared for traffic delays as the torch and it’s procession continue up to The Crescent and along English street where it will make a left turn onto Castle Street.
It will then wind it’s way around Finkle Street, Fisher Street, Market Street and West Tower Street before heading along Dacre Road to Bitts Park for the evening celebration.
The Olympic Torch will return to Carlisle again around 10.00am the following day as it arrives at the northern end of Scotland Road on it’s journey from Gretna out via Castle Way to West Cumbria.
Again, we ask that you allow plenty of time for your journey in the likely event that traffic becomes congested.
On day 70 Friday 27 July, The bells of Carlisle Cathedral along with others across the UK, will herald the official opening of the Olympic Ceremony at 8.00am.
