Cumbria plays host to the Tour of Britain Cycle race at the latter part of this week, taking the riders through the heart of the Lake District and down into the south of the county.
Stage 5 On Thursday 6th of September will depart from Cockermouth before heading on to picturesque Whinlatter. The 14 kilometre test gains over 300 metres in altitude, with the final five kilometres of the stage against the clock averaging 4%.
The start of Stage Six on Friday 7th begins in the centre of Barrow outside the Town Hall.
Teams will begin the 10 kilometre neutralised section heading through the town along Abbey Road to the 12th century Furness Abbey.
The route will take the riders towards the docks. Upon leaving the town, the world class field will be greeted by views of the beautiful nature reserve on Walney Island, taking them past the spectacular Morecambe Bay along the coast road, through South Lakeland and ultimately back up towards Whinlatter.
