The Sportsphysio.com run pain clinics for those who suffer chronic pain.
Living day to day with chronic pain is an awful reality for some people and we at the Sportsphysio.com believe that everybody has a right to a pain free life.
People who suffer arthritic conditions, phantom limb pain and myofascial pain such as fibromyalgia can be taught to regulate and treat their own pain.
Patients who suffer chronic pain or undiagnosed pain can feel incredibly lonely, disbelieved and helpless. Our pain clinics offer small groups of people the chance to “swap notes” with other sufferers and discuss their symptoms. This alone can make a huge difference, especially psychologically.
We will teach you how to understand pain cycles and mechanisms.
Review of medications
Pain relief medication is often on repeat prescription, with the patient not having to turn up at their GP’s surgery. After a period of time our brains become very adept at “customising” our bodies to become tolerant of a particular drug, this drug gradually becomes less and less effective and continued use can lead to unwanted side effects.
- New drugs are being created all the time.
- Research into conditions may point to a different form of treatment.
- People get “stuck in a rut” with their medication.
So…We will review your medication and advise if you may need to consult your GP
Instruction on the use of pain relief devices.
People who have TENS machines and other pain relief devices are often unsure how to use them and there are many tricks with the use of trigger points and myotomes which will help these devices become more effective.
Diet
It is well known among arthritis sufferers that certain foodstuffs can make their condition worse. This is also true of other types of chronic pain, where the things we eat can stimulate muscles and reduce blood supply.
There are also foods which are known to be beneficial in the reduction of pain or inflammation.
Exercise
We will look at the most effective ways to exercise to relieve pain, improve mobility and maintain strength and fitness.
Self treatment
People are only too happy to learn about their pain or condition and generally want to be able to do something for themselves. Being actively able to control your own pain has great psychological benefit.
Patients can be taught how to use trigger points effectively as well as certain specialist connective tissue and PNF techniques.
Pain Clinic
All pain clinic sessions are by appointment at a cost of only £20 per person and will last about two hours.
