Emergency

Ambulance, Fire, Police, Mountain Rescue & Coastguard – Dial 999 and ask for the service you require.

Non Emergency

Police – Local non emergency police – 101

The Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association (LDSAMRA) comprises the twelve teams across Cumbria and the Lake District.  Cockermouth, Coniston, Duddon and Furness, Kendal, Keswick, Kirkby Stephen, Langdale Ambleside, Patterdale, Penrith and Wasdale MRTs plus COMRU and the Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs.

NHS 111

(replaces NHS Direct service)
You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it’s not a life threatening situation.

Call 111 if:

* you need medical help fast but it’s not a 999 emergency
* you think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
* you don’t know who to call or you don’t have a GP to call
* you need health information or reassurance about what to do next

Cumbria emergency dentists
Dental Care (out of hours)
If you are a registered patient, please ring your own dentist to organise treatment.

Unregistered patients if you require advice on an emergency dental problem ring 01228 603900 if you are in north Cumbria, or 01539 716822 if you are in south Cumbria.

Temporary/New Residents
You may be visiting Cumbria or have just moved into the area.  If you need a GP within normal surgery hours, contact the GP surgery nearest to where you are staying. There is provision for you to be registered as a temporary resident at the surgery and be able to access appointments.

If you are a temporary or new resident and need to see a GP out of hours, please use the CHoC service detailed above.

Pharmacies
When you don’t need to be seen by a Nurse or Doctor,  your local pharmacist can provide advice on common illnesses and the best medicines to treat them.

To find the nearest pharmacies to your location, simply text ‘Pharmacy’ to 64746 and you will receive three free texts listing the three nearest pharmacies and their address.
